Design Thinking Assignment: Stage 4

Now that our group had come up with some ideas, it was now time to choose a few that would be prototyped for the next stage. It was probably one of the easier stages for our group as we had come up with most of the ideas and now it was time to make them come to life in a way.

During this stage we started out with our first prototype by writing down everything about it. What it was, the areas it would be placed in, why it was there and constraints. This gave use a fuller understanding of the prototype and design decision’s that would need to be made. Group members started to physically make the prototype out of cardboard, to just give us a rough idea of what it could potentially look like.

This same process was similarly followed for the other prototypes, but instead of physically making it, the prototype was drawn on paper as a physical representation of the ideas was not yet possible. This was due to one prototype being an app for a phone and the other being an advertisement/campaign. Instead we wrote and drew down the ideas, so that a prototype could be worked out in the future, if we were to go ahead with the ideas.

During this process we still discussed other options, developed our ideas and bounced off one another’s ideas as well, which led to some interesting developments within the prototypes. Ones which we are very happy with.

Continuing on with the prototyping we had developed the app and campaign. The app was design by a group member on their laptop first adding in a lot more details and design elements that made it come to life, making it possible to be tested in the next stage. We then created a phone out of cardboard and wrote the apps contents on paper which could be slid though the phone, making it really come to life then.

The same was done for the campaign, we had collected some embarrassing photos of a group member and added some slogans to them. We are planning to add more to the campaign with other photos of group members and either with the same slogan or another one.

As this is an assignment, we had started on the power point, documenting the whole process of design thinking and explaining each of the stages with what we did. This is where writing everything down as well as these blogs have come into play in helping to complete the power point.
